Energy Ratings
Installing energy efficient windows in your home can do two things;
1. It can reduce your energy bills and/or enhance comfort levels
2. It reduces your carbon footprint
By how much it can reduce your bills and carbon footprint depends upon a number of factors, an important one being if the windows to be replaced are single or double glazed.
A simplified model has been developed by the leading trade body in the glazing sector, namely the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) –
www.ggf.org.uk
The model is called the carbon calculator – it shows that in a typical house, the average yearly savings made when installing energy efficient windows is;
- Single glazed home £156 and up to £266 if electrically heated)
- Double glazed home £80
This equates to a 18% reduction in the carbon footprint of a typical single glazed home and 7% if that same home was already double glazed.
